Notre Dame du Calvaire chapel

La Désirade

Voir le trajet

Built in 1905, the Notre Dame du Calvaire Chapel in Desirade is the last stage of the chemin de croix or ‘path of the cross’ on the island. Located 200 meters above sea level, the small blue and white building and its candles demonstrate the faith of the inhabitants of Desirade, and Guadeloupe, as a whole. Perched in the heights of the island, it offers a breathtaking view of the Desirade, its turquoise waters, and the neighboring islands: Petite-Terre, Grande-Terre, Basse-Terre...  A toposcope (or orientation table) allows you to get a sense of where other notable landscapes are in relation to Desirade.

Directions
From the port of Beauséjour, follow the chemin de croix. The small road is steep and winding. For the bravest among you, you can reach it on foot or by bike (remember to protect yourself from the sun and take water). Otherwise the Chapel is accessible by car or scooter.
